Protein Cat food….

It’s become a buzzword…………

Protein.

It’s everywhere & it’s in everything:

Protein shakes

Protein bars

Protein cereal

Protein popcorn

Protein beer (seriously)

Protein cat food (not so seriously)

The list goes on, and adding the word Protein has become a flashy way to market and sell pretty much any & every product imaginable.

In all the hype it’s easy to forget why we actually need it:

Protein is an ESSENTIAL macro nutrient that your body needs to maintain & repair body tissue/muscle mass, whilst keeping your skin, eyes, and organs all nice & healthy.

So, without resorting to protein cat food, what is a good source of protein to include in your diet?

Meats – chicken, turkey, beef, steak, and ‘exotic’ choices such as kangaroo, ostrich, venison, bison all pack a strong protein punch.

Fish – salmon (my fav), tuna, all white fish (halibut is a winner), but also shellfish such as prawns, oysters, scallops, and lobster if you fancy being fancy…

Eggs – versatile, quick & easy, eggs are one of my preferred protein sources.

Dairy – Cottage cheese & Greek yogurt (Fage is my fav brand) are both full of protein without being full of calories.

For the veggies out there – Tofu, quinoa, soy, quorn, beans/lentils, and soy all give you plenty of protein options.

Quality protein shakes can prove to be a convenient and easy way of hitting your daily requirements, especially if you are busy and on the go……They are not essential or magical, but for some can help.

Ideally, I’d advise trying to have a serving/source of protein with every meal, this will help you hit your targets.

By doing this, you’ll probably also find that you are fuller for longer, leading to less picking/snacking – good news if your goal is fat loss…..

That’s all for today, until the next time,

Tristan ‘all of the protein’ Buttle.

P.S – Quick reminder that protein gives you 4kcal per gram (same amount as carbs per gram).
