Jumping around on your living room floor…

We’ve had a little bit of time to adjust to isolation haven’t we?

We’ve had a bit of time to get our heads round the fact that the gym is NOT an option, & if we want to train we HAVE to do it at home…

This period of adjustment has been a bit like joining a new gym:

You want to try out new exercises…

You want to try out new bits of kit…

You want to try new classes…

During the first couple of weeks at a new gym you don’t really have structure because everything is new & you are still getting your head round it all…

This is literally what we have ALL been doing the last couple of weeks, we have been doing what we can, when we can, with what we have access to.

Some of you may have been doing more exercise than you were before the lockdown, simply because you now have more time on your hands?

You might be involving your partner, kids or the whole family, which is obviously a huge positive..

However, moving forward, having structure with a more programmed approach is going to be far more beneficial long term.

There are SO many home training options out there at the moment, it’s equally as important to consider what NOT to do at home…

My advice today is simple:

Prior to the lockdown if you were NOT performing any high impact exercise, now is NOT the time to start…

When I say high impact, I am referring to any exercises that centre around jumping, bounding, leaping, basically anything that is creating impact on your joints!

If you didn’t previously do these exercises due to injury, limitation, weakness or the structure of your body shape, now isn’t the time to start jumping around on your living room floor!

The risk vs the benefit simply doesn’t stack up long term.

There are lot more, lower impact, safer options that you can perform progressively through time.

Also, if you were more inactive prior to the lockdown, I also wouldn’t go from nothing to high impact..

This isn’t a knock or a criticism on what anyone is or isn’t doing, I just think its key to think long term..

Thats all for today, have a good day, have a good home workout, have a good week!

P.S- If you are stuck with programming or structure and/or looking for some alternative ideas and options give me a shout. I’ve been doing lots of sessions via video-chat and its been a really positive experience! This can be done individually, or you can get the family involved!
