This is Alastair,
We have trained together for a very long time.
Alastair had returned to his regular training sessions 9 weeks ago following open heart surgery.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how we have structured things so far:
The main purpose of weeks 1 & 2 was to simply assess what lower body weight options were a good fit for his body at the at this time.
The goal of weeks 2 & 3 was to introduce some additional loading to the lower body whilst still working within his current recovery capabilities.
The goal of week 4 was to introduce an upper body movement that allowed Alastair to train completing pain free. The seated row proved to be a suitable option causing no overstretching to the operated area.
The goal of weeks 5- 8 was to increase workout intensity moderately whist still working within his current capabilities. We also included an additional upper body movement, opting for the close grip pulldown.
As we moved into week 9 we introduced our first direct chest movement, opting for a neutral grip dumbell press.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, whatever your own current situation maybe with your own health/limitations, focusing on what you CAN do rather than what you CANT do will help you to keep moving forward.
Tristan ‘can do’ Buttle.
